There are 3 degrees of severity of the reduced foot:

Light degree (flexible condition)

If a slight degree of deformation is detected, it is possible to first try stretching therapy, massages, but only during the first 4 weeks. If the foot has not fully recovered during this period, treatment should be started.

Medium and Severe

When diagnosing moderate to severe deformity, treatment should be started immediately.

Putting the control in your hands.

What should I know about Congenital Foot Deformations?

A common opinion around Metatarsus Adductus has been its ability to be outgrown “with time”. Time is a sensitive matter when it comes to this deformity and it has been known to be best when resolved before the age of walking. Additionally, there is no need to put the stress of maintaining stretching exercises on parents when there is a solution.

Metatarsus Adductus.

Metatarsus Varus or MTA – is a congenital foot deformity that occurs in approximately 7% of births. When one sibling has the deformity, the incidence increases to 12%. This deformity causes the front half of the foot to turn inward due to an off-center deviation at the tarso-metatarsal joints (the midfoot, or middle part of the foot).

Treatment Options.

The goal of treatment is to straighten the forefoot and the heel through stretching, casts and surgery. There are several clinical factors to consider when determining if treatment should begin with Metatarsus Adductus patients. These factors include the natural history of the deformity including the likelihood of it persisting without treatment.

SERIAL CASTING

Slowed Development

Plaster obstructs the baby’s movements for several months during the period of active growth.

Pressure sores & circulatory problems.

Additional deformations of the feet with improper casting techniques.

Lack of hygiene.

Parents must rely on doctors to maintain proper hygiene of the cast. The cast comes with many hygienic issues such as being prone to infection. Issues of hygiene can only be treated by the physician. Parents are unaware of what is going on inside the cast, until it is off and doctors observation is made.

Psychological trauma.

Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
